Meeting with my students is the best part of my day! Here are some things to expect (as well as some recommendations) for having things run smoothly.
You will receive an instant Zoom confirmation email upon booking your session. Be sure to make a reminder for you/your student, and use the reschedule link in this email if needed.
Make sure you have a quiet place to work, have paper/pencil, have a charged battery, and are accessing me on a screen big enough to read. If there's a handout for the assignment, snap a pic and send it in advance:).
Expect all sessions to start on time. Tutoring happens when you are in a calm location and you have a good microphone/audio setup. During tutoring, you can expect us to focus on whatever math issues are most pressing. Things I've done in tutoring sessions include:
Working through a homework assignment together
Reviewing or reteaching a topic from scratch
Creating challenging problems on a topic for a student to extend their thinking
No matter what, the best sessions feel like a lively discussion with jokes and celebrations and mistakes and "a-ha"s.
All tutoring sessions are transcribed by Zoom, and students/families will receive a follow-up email to each session with a PDF of the notes taken as well as an AI summary of our time together. I've found these to be extremely helpful as a study tool for students and a monitoring tool for parents.
